How was the Saturday punt? It should have been a great day since A Turf Fascination’s one and only sponsor Gai Waterhouse trained six winners for the day plus a few placegetters, one of which was Bull Point who came from last in the Group One at $71.
The best bet of the day… Atlantic Jewel into Ecuador ended up paying just under evens, but it won very very very easily. In the Dato, Happy Trails got scratched but Fiorente won and we had him second (after the scratching) behind Super Cool. Super Cool wants more ground and he will be well fancied in the Caulfield Cup.
So how about the entire program at Rosehill…
Our selection Index Linked needs more ground. But in the four selections we did get the winner in Hosting and second Twisted Emotions. Maybe there was a small profit in this race due to Twisted Emotions running second at $20?
A winner! Yes the second, third and 4th selections did nothing but the winner Footy Fan paid pretty well so still up right?
Top selection Shelford looked the winner 50m from home but he was run over. He paid $2 a place and the other selections did nothing, so this was probably a losing race despite the top selection getting rolled by half a length.
Ecuador won as predicted and he will win a Group One race this preparation. He got out to $1.90 so hopefully people just kept backing him over and over again. Second selection Multilateral ran third.
Rain Affair went terribly but our top selection Solzhenitsyn ran a cracking race but was just beaten. He looked an each way certainty and end up paying $2 a place. So despite another narrow loss, it was probably a losing race.
Ok this was a horrible race. And to make matters worse, one of Gai’s won it at $10. A big losing race and a reality check from a pretty confident start.
The Group One Golden Rose was actually ok. Our second selection Aussies Love Sport was scratched so money back. Prince Harada needs more ground and clear running and for those who took the advice and put in Bull Point and Pitcrew well, despite the $8.70 a place about Bull Point, he should have won at $71. Did you see him six lengths behind the last horse before flying home for a great third?
Grey Assignment was terrible but he loves Melbourne so stick on. Julienas paid $3 a place and should have won. He was heavily impeded by the riderless horse and was blocked for a run. Our third selection Prince Cheri won the race but he was pretty short.
So it was probably a profitable day right? It should have been much better but they can’t all be winners. Next week is the Underwood at Caulfield and the George Main in Sydney. Atlantic Jewel will probably back up and take on P D L at Caulfield over 1800m. Hawkspur and Shoot Out will be hard to beat in Sydney. Don’t be surprised if Ecuador backs up next week also.
Please enjoy this video of the 2008 Underwood Stakes, the last race this great horse ever won…
And here is Lonhro winning the George Main and in the process beating a really good field…
Good luck and stay tuned.
